ENCALLADOS (STRANDED)

Thursday, 28th May, 2.30 pm: Galician film Encallados (Stranded), directed by Alfonso Zarauza.

The economic troubles faced by the film industry force a director to write the script of a film in two weeks. He and two scriptwriters dive into a creative process that does not seem to lead them to a safe harbour. During this process they have to cope with the pressure of the producer, the challenge of writing without falling into old clichés, and the limitation of means of production. All this until they realize that this very creative process has its own identity as a story.

Encallados (2013) is yet another proof of Galician talent… and humour. This is a story about a group of friends, Alfonso, Pato and Andy, entangled in the difficult task of making a film about the oil spillage disaster caused by the sinking of the Prestige tanker off the Galician coast. Encallados, shot in black and white, is set in the monumental city of Santiago de Compostela. The film has been awarded three Mestre Mateos by the Galician Film Academy: Best TV Film, Best Film Editing and Best Cinematography.

Tuesday, 13th May 2014, 6 pm

The story follows the journey of a convict, Ramón, who has escaped from jail and comes to a remote mountain village along the Camiño de Santiago (Way of Saint James) searching for a treasure hidden there years earlier. What at first appears to be a deserted town in which only a few elderly people live, turns out to be a village surviving under a curse that has existed for over 600 years. This is a tale of mystery, adventure, terror, humour and fantasy which will intrigue and capture the audience with its elaborate visuals and expressive and unique characters.

O Apóstolo is the first stop-motion animation feature film of Europe developed by stereoscopic production. Over 200 professionals have joined in this pioneering project, these including technical specialists in 3D shooting system, animators and model makers from all around the world.
